About
Hello! My name is Maya Simone. Some things about me:
I like watching foreign films, eating raw oysters and kittens.

For me, art has been an outlet for catharsis and expression. Art allows me to give my thoughts a way to live outside of my mind and inhabit an image or character that can now have it's own experience with others.

The art I am most drawn to typically contemporary artist like Bruce Nauman and Chris Medina. Art that is foreboding and visceral and best of all: strange. Although, Artemisia Gentileschi, Jessa Audrey Llynn, Jose Jonsson and Stephanie Sarley have all given me the most inspiration. My favorite artist is Alicia Rihko first drew my attention to digital art.

My art focuses heavily on femininity, sexuality and morbidity. Artemisia Genteileschi's iconic "Judith Beheading Holonefernes" first struck my mind in my first art history course and has lived there since. Jessa Audrey Llynn and Jose Jonsson are two digital artists that curate bright and cosmic pieces that have long shaped the feminine inspiration that can be seen in my current artwork.

The unobtainable drive for perfection that is thrusted upon the female figure from most of society drives my artistry to question: why?
